报告介绍:Given the interdependent nature of subsidiaries in a multinational enterprise (MNE), we examine the multinational network dynamics that affect subsidiary mandate development and their performance implications. By incorporating cooperative and competitive logic, we propose a framework of subsidiary mandate development to understand how strategic interdependence among subsidiaries stimulates subsidiary mandate development. Furthermore, we identify the short- and long-term performance implications and emphasize that performance benefits depend on how subsidiaries take mandate development opportunities by examining the boundary conditions of experiential and
competitive learning. Based on a sample of 4,509 foreign subsidiaries for over 20 years, the findings confirm that subsidiaries redefine their mandate portfolio in response to strategic moves of peers and how to expand mandate portfolio is critical to improving subsidiary performance.
